High up on the rocky coast of New England stood a tall white lighthouse where little Mary Lincoln lived with her Papa. The lighthouse was Mary's favorite place in the whole world, even though its many stairs made her tiny legs tired.

One autumn evening, dark clouds rolled in from the sea. The wind whistled through the lighthouse windows, making spooky sounds that made Mary shiver. 'A big storm is coming,' Papa said, looking out at the angry waves. 'We must keep the lighthouse lamp burning bright to guide the ships safely home.'

As the storm grew stronger, Papa needed to carry heavy oil to keep the lighthouse lamp burning. But tonight was different. Papa's back was hurting from all the climbing.

'Mary,' Papa called softly, 'I need your help. Can you be my brave assistant and help carry the small oil can up the stairs?'

Mary looked at the dark staircase. The wind howled louder, and she clutched her favorite doll tightly. She was scared, but she knew the ships needed their light.

Taking a deep breath, Mary nodded. 'I'll help you, Papa!' She picked up the small oil can with both hands.

Step by step, Mary climbed the winding stairs. The storm raged outside, but she kept thinking about the ships that needed their light. Her legs felt tired, but she didn't stop. Finally, she reached the top, where Papa waited with a proud smile.

'Well done, my brave girl!' Papa said, giving Mary a warm hug. Together, they filled the lamp with oil. The bright light beamed across the dark waters, showing ships the way to safety.

As Mary and Papa watched the storm from the lighthouse tower, she felt tall and strong. She wasn't scared anymore. She was a lighthouse keeper's daughter, and helping others made her heart glow as bright as their lighthouse lamp.
